VOLUNTEER NEWS.
It is understood that Colonel Webb, Officer Commanding the District, will inspect the local companies on Monday next. Some inquiries are being made as to whrn wmpetitors will be paid the prizt money won at the district match. The School of Itstruction held its usual session yesterday. In the afterjnoon a lesson was given in knotting | and ltwhing, and the various devirus used to lift wtights, tha instruction being given by Sergeant-Ma jjr Rusaoll. The cl 83 were then exercised in company movements and fire control, ucder Lieutenant-Colonel Owen. In th 6 evening the method of filling cut the varuus forms and returns was given, and the subjects of march, discipline, the preparation and use of obstacles in fortific itions, and the supply of ammunition in the field were dealt with.
