LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.

A GESERAL meeting of the newly formed Literary and Debating Society ! w#s held at the Council Chamber on Thursday evening, tbe attendance being very fair, and representative of both seniors and juniors. Mr Dempsey presided. The following officers were appointed —Stnir Branch, President-: Mr Edmunds ; Vice President o : Rev. Bradbury and r Gl?gg; Secretary, Mr. 8. Smith; Awstwt-Secretary, R'-v.

The motion was seconded by Mr. Holloway. The Chairman ruled that the mo'iou could not be put without notice, and the meeting was adjourned for a w ek to enable 'be question to be determined
