OUR OWX COKRESEOXD.Ejq',). This recitation compotition, under tha auspices of the W.C.T.U., tosk place here oa WeJnenday, when fchsra wai a large attendance. A brak?, very kindly lent by Mr. Macßoynolds, brought a contingent of reciters and friands from tho end of Ngariki Road and Rahotu, and conveyed them similarly on return. The president of the Pungarehu branch, Miss White, cf Rahotu, presided. Mr. Fitzpatriek contributed musical items, one, a whistling song, displaying remarkable powers and skilful rendering. Mr. Harold White also gave a couple of songs, which afforded muc h pleasure. The recitations were wel} chosen, several being very effectively rendered. The prizes fell, Ist to Miss Grace Howell, 3nd to Miss May Phillips, In the! second claea the lai; prras weat to Miss Easily Taylor, the second to Miss Maud Harvey, while a special paw, donated by Mrs. Rutherford, fell to Miss Kate Symons. The judges wero Mrs. Rutherford, Mhs Reid.and Miss Daisy Taylor, and their decisions gave satisfaction to all concerned. The objects and work of tho W.O.T.U. were outlined by the President, and an address wss given by the Rev, J. H. White. After tho meeting, pome present signified their intention of joining tho Union, whil<3 all were gratified with tha programme and proceedings, and not a little surprised at the wealth of material which the reciters had found . oa temperance reform. i
