CORRESPONDENCE.

|Wa do not hold ournelvaa responsible far i opinions expressed by correspondents.! ■■■ ♦ AID TO DAIRY FACTORIES. TO THE EDITOE. Sin, —My attention has been called to an article in your paper of Tuesday last, copied frun the Poverty Bay Herald, I should not trouble you in the matter but that 1 think some misstatements contained therein should be corrected. The Bank of New South Wales wag not the first Bank to assist the dairy industry in Taranaki, that houour belongs to the National Bank, Mr. Cecil King being at that time the New Plymouth manager. Neither was the Midhirst Co-operative Dairy Factory the first in Taranaki, there were several established before it; in fact, the Midhirst settlers only followed in the wake of other districts when they found co-operation a success. The first factory was the Cardiff Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, Ltd,, and was registered on the 13 th February, 1891, and financed by the National Bank—with which Bank the account is still kept to the entire satisfaction of both parties -on much more liberal term* than the Bank of New Sjuth Walen gave to Midhirst—namely, a mortgage over the uncalled capital, and a joint bond by fifteen members of the Company, fur £4O each. This, sir, was tha real " Genesis of the oo- > operative movement in Taranaki" yeirs ) prior to any movement by Midhirst 1 , im happy to say that the Cardiff I Factory is still prospering and tho«» I no sign of decay. These facts, sir, ar<- > well known to yourself, and lam some J whit surprised that you should hsv< - publishe 1 the article without comment ing on what you p ifectly welt kno* b >vere inaccuraci-w. With thi rest ol s the arti ld in the main I thoroughly t Agree, and can ondorse what ia tboreii--1 stated as to the benefits Taranaki hs> ? derived from the dairy industry.—l am, h ate., i PjLon&K F. Balfk. i, S'ratfonl, November 29tb, 1900. t THE LATfC SHOW, j TO THE EDITOB. Sib,—Would you kindly allow me a 0 little space to express my disgust at the ] unfair judging of the Roujh Collie - dogs at the late Show. Either the r gentleman who acted as judge knew 1 nothing whatever about that special ] breed, aud therefore c >ul I not tee th» s merits or points of the d us, or for ■- some other r&ison awarded the prize to i! Vlr. Ambury's Hheph rJ. I u.u quite ■ -mi'o (ha* no one was more surprise J than Mr. Ambury him y self that his d)s{ had l>eeii awardol - first prize when he know that Mr. B Ribinsou's Burns Afton—which took s the prize last year—was there. Ma,;y e gentlemen at the Show, who knew » good dog when they caw it, expressed b their surprise at the glaring blunder or i lack of knowledge displayed by the . judge, Had Mr. Robinson been on the , grounds on Show day, he would no r doubt have entered his protest and seen i that his dog got fair play. Itisawelli known fact that wherever Parker's 3 breed of Collie dogs have been exhibited in New Zealand they have always taken . first and champion prizes.—l am, eto., 1 A Lovaa oc Fain Plat. Stratford, 30th November. \ OAKURA ROAD BOARD. TO TUB EDI rOB.

Siu,—l notice in your issue of the 24th inst, a letter from your Koru uoiTespoudent in which he complains of the action of theOakura Road Beard on various occasions, and I should like him to know that there are others in tha district tint know as much abo.it Road Boards, and their duty at he does, and when a petition was seat around to the ratepayers with regird ta where this £IOO should be spent, there were ouly about throe signatures to it. Doos that look as if the ratepayers disagree with the Board's action ? And considering the reverses your own Ins mat with lately, I should advise him to leave Road Boards and all others to look after their own business, j and I might ioform your own that the! Koru school is to be examined this, year.—l am, etc., ] MKMUES OF OAXUIU ROIO Bojlkd.
