HOCKEY.
In view of the forthcoming match with Hawera next Thursday, the last captain v. vice-captain's match was postponed yesterday, to give members an opportunity of having a good systema- i tic practice. Must of the members ' picked for the Olub team were present ] and some really excellent fast play was j shown. The Hawera team has already established a reputation for its powers, i having beaten Wanganui and BJanaia i twice. Given two days fine weather 5 prior to next Thursday to enable the .Recreation Ground to become fit, the public of New Plymouth will doubtless witness a good and interesting game. Although rather novel here, hockey matches have become very frequent and popular in other progressive towns of ' New Zealand. Fuller details of next . Thursday's match will appear in our , advertising columns.
