P.O. BOX ROBBERY.
PBB FJUSS ASSOOUX ON. Auckland, August 28. It has been discovered that thirty cheques of the total value of marly £IOOO have recently been taken from the letter box at the General Port Office, used by Macky, Logan and do. None of the cheques .have yet been presented for payment, and drawers have now stopped payment. It seems that on August 3rd an office boy, being sent from Macky, Logan and Oo.'a for the mail, lost the key of the letter-box. He did not report the loss, but subsequently borrowed the duplicate key when sent for the mail. Some cheques were missed, and inquiry elicited the above facts. A new lock was put oa the box, and since then no letters have been missed. The matter is in the hands of the police, but, so far, the perpetrator of the robbery has not been traced. The Auckland letters stolen f ran tht post-box of Messrs Macky, Logan, Steen and Co., contained cheques, sunt of which, amounting to thousands of pound*, wore cashed before the thefts were discovered.
