WINTER ACTIVITIES. Stratford Club Makes Preparations. A meeting of the committee of the Stratford Mountain Club war. held on Monday evening. Mr T. Kirkwood presided over an. attendance of nine. Correspondence was received from lhe N. w Zealand Ski Council concerning the visit to Australia ot a New Zealand ski team this winter. The team will leave for Kosciusko early in September and will be away for about five weeks. Building up a team's travelling fund for thie is non 1 occupying the ski-ing clubs fhrohghout New Zealand. Carryer, Osborn and White were appointed a sub-committee to collect matter for inclusion in the map of Egmont nowin preparation and to confer with the East Committee or any others who could give assistance in this matter. The club is indebted to twD local experts for a thorough report on the telephone line to the Manganui Hut. and for a number of very valuable suggestions for improvements, which will occupy the attention of some members of working bees to be held in the near future. It was also decided to erect lockers in the Manganui Hut and to carry out other additions and improvements as funds permit. Emfrgency Lists. The club s emergency list of members able to turn out in case of accidents is to be brought up to date. It is .graded according to the numb r's fitness to go anywhere on the mountain under any conditions, or to assist in h. a\y work on main tracks oi- below the scrub line, or for light duty say at huts preparing tea, holding torches, etc. Also there is a list of citizens who have put thems: Ives and a ear at the disposal of the club for the transport of rescue parties. The committee would be pleased to receive the names ot people will'ng to act in these various capacities. The club’s delegates to the Taranaki Ski Committee reported that the annual meeting of clubs is to !>■> held in Stratford on the sth May and that the probable dates of the Taranaki Ski Championships are: Junior Ist August and Senior 23rd to 25th October. Manganui Gorge Work. It was repoited that the work ot improving tha Gorge entrance was welt under way. A considerable portion of the cliff face previously showing overhanging boulders, has already been cut back. Having in view the possibility of organising one or more week-end visits to Ruapehu, the committee ask ed the secretary to endeavour to get accurate information about the state and progress of the work of rnptalling the Tangarakau Gorge route to Taumarunui. It was decided to confer with the East Committee about the possibility of appointing a sports organiser on the lines of some ot the European winter sports resorts. This, it was' considered, would add considerably to the attractiveness ot the Stratford, ski ing grounds.
