The Dean of Nelson (Dr. Weeks) leaves for Sydney next Tuesday in response to an invitation to conduct a parochial mission, at St. Andrew's, Summerhill, from the 25th Tnst. onwards. He expects to be absent for about five weeks.

A Christehurch Press Association message records the death of Mr Charles Allison, an ex-Mayor and prominent citizen for many years.

Mr Arthur Leaver, Mayor of Westport, is in Nelson for a day or two, on his way home. Mr Leaver had intended proceeding to Sydney, but on reaching. Wellington he was taken ill and had to remain there for a month.

Our Christehurch correspondent telegraphs that Mr A. McNeil, who has been for the past six years correspondence clerk in the Christcnurch railway goods office, lias been transferred to the district office at Nelson.

Dr. Arthur Percival Newton, M.A., D.Lit., B.Sc, F.S.A., lecturer in imperial and Colonial History in the University of London, University and King's Colleges, who has just completed a tour of the United tSates, is due to arrive in New Zealand by the Makura. Mr. 0. Johnston Brown, who died at 'Dunedin on Friday, was a well-known accountant. He was one of the founders of the Institute of Accountants of New Zealand, and also of the New Zealand Society of^ Accountants. In his* younger days Mr. Brown was a prominent racing cyclist.

Mr. C. K. Sams, well-known in hanking circles, who is retiring: after 44 years' service with the Bank of Australasia, was the recipient of a cheque for £200, enclosed in a silver casket, from business men, citizens ,^ and clients of the bank's branch in Christclrarch.

An ex-Imperial officer Captain G. W. Bawkesby, died in Auckland last week. Captain Hawkesby, who was born in County 'Leitrim, Ireland, belonged to the 2nd' Battalion of the 18th Royal Irish Regiment, and fought through the Maori War, at file conclusion of which he was the last surviving officer of the regiment. He returned to England with his regiment, but some years ago came out to New Zealand with his family. The funeral took place on Easter Sunday, at Purewa Cemetery. Many mourners, including members of *nei regiment and sons of the members, were present. The coffin was borne to ™c grave by six sons of the deceased soldier, T7 . , _, Captain Kenneth Basil Murison, M.C., son of Mrs E. Murison, of Christchurch, was drowned early, in March at Elmwood, Melbourne, where he was stayin S with his wife. Captain Murison held a commission m the Indian Army, ana was on furlough. At the outbreak or_the war while visiting Melbourne, he enlisted with the 2nd Infantry Battalion (machine-gun section), and was at Gallipoh and in France, where "he was decorated for bravery.
