SUMMER SCHOOL.
The Summer School conducted by the Dean of Nelson terminated on Saturday. The week was marked by a series of highly successful meetings. The interest was sustained throughout as the various, stages of Christian life and experience were ■; brought under review. At the Shelbourne^Street Schoolroom, on Saturday morning Dr. Weeks spoke of "Prayer," and based his xemarks on Matthew; vi., J5-15. *He .explained .thati its nature was that of tha> whole spiritual action of the soul turned towards God as the true and adequate object. It was a subject that had been much misunderstood, and Christ here exposed [ those faults, giving a true model to guide us. Prayer was not an act of merit. It was the expression of a desire —the desire for Some One as illustrated ■I)-" the Psalmist, "My soul longeth after Tb rto, 0 God." But if we would be sue- «•- Mil in the act of prayer, we must fi '.■-. ••.- oa the line of outstanding prin- ; civics .'..j taught by Holy Scripture. Our sprayers must be according to the will of God. They must be uttered in the name of Christ, and be presented in the power of the Holy Spirit.. - At the last meeting, in the evening,, under the title "The Secret of Power," ; Dr. *Weeks~<realt with the subject of j "Sanctification." This was described as. ! conformity of heart and life to the will |of God. Sin having done its deadly I work in marring the image of a loving | Creator, it was by sanctification that the j blessed work of restoration was possible to the soul. Nevertheless, such could not eventuate without conforming to God's conditions. A "crisis" was necessary : Christ must be enthroned a'fid the sinful life repudiated before the tcpro~ cess" of renewal and transformation eonld proceed. Thus the way was made clear for a series of ever-deepening surrenders, the thankful and! grateful action exemplified in Romans xii., 1, foklowing the triumphant experience given in Romans viii.
