Mr J. W, P. Chapman Dyer was ordained deacon at the Cathedral yesterday, being tha first post-war candidate. Mr Dyer obtained First Class in the recent examination for Grade 111. by the Board of Theological Studies.
Dr. Jeffreysj superintendent of . Sea-< cliff Mental Hospital, ana formerly of Nelson, arrived here on Saturday to relieve Dr. McKillop, superintendent of the Nelson Mental Hospital who is going on two months' leave.
Miss Ruth Atkinson, of Nelson, who is returning to New Zealand by the Bremen, has been an active member in England of the B.AV.T.A. and cognate societies, while she helped to organise the work of distributing prohibition literature among New Zealanders before the referendum. Miss Atkinson went to England for her health, which restricted her public work but she kept open house for young New Zealanders ia London on leave during the war.
