A Press Association cable states that Melbourne University will confer its honorary degree of LL.D. upon Sir "William Birdwood and Sir John Monash in recognition of their war services.

A Press Association message from Greymouth states that the county byelection resulted in Mr W. J. Hannaii, son of the late Mr M. Hannan, being elected to the seat formerly held by his father.

Trinity Hall, Greymouth, was packed tlie other evening by a large gathering oi' parishioners, who had assembled to extend a welcome to tiie now vicar (Canon Carr) and Mrs Carr and family. Canon Carr said he knew from the great size of the parish, and from the time that had elapsed since Archdeacon York had been appointed to Blenheim, that he. had a difficult task iv fr<?nt> of lam.
