OPENING DAY AT WAKEFIELD.
(From "The Colonist," Sept. 22nd.) Saturday was a delightful spring day, with a gentle northerly wind, and in these very pleasant weather conditions the Wakefiold Bowling Club opened the season. A large number of visitors attended from the Nelson, Maitai, Richmond, and other clubs, and the green was fully occupied. The visitors "were warmly welcomed, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Well prepared for the occasion, the green upheld its reputation as one that can be depended on by players. Mr H. Tunnicliff,- the president in a few suitable remarks, declared the season open, saying that1 if it continued as it was being begun it would be one to be thankful for. Mrs Tunnicliff sent up the opening bowl amid applause, and there was an" exchange of cheers between the ; visitors and their hosts.' Afternoon tea ! was provided by Mrs H. Tunnicliff and other ladies, and was greatly appreciated. A match, President v. Vice-Pre-siden, was played, and was won by the latter by 169 to 160.
