•'A MILLION BID." Owing to the unprecedented success oi the Vitagraph feature, "A Million Bid,' on its first appearance a re-issue de luxe was arranged. This was shown at Hayward's Pictures on Saturday night to £ j large attendance. Anita Stewart has ithe star role t and* is supported by ar | unsually strong cast, which includes I Harry Morey, E. K. Lincoln, Juliji j Swayne Gordon, and Gladden James. JThe story is one of great emotional power, and works up to a breathless climax. It tells of an unscrupulous mother who desires to marry her daughter for wealth. To do this she intercepts letters, and succeeds in parting i two genuine lovers, in due course, at | her instigation, the daughter marries a millionaire, but insists that it must be a marriage in name only. On the honeymoon trip the yacht is wrecked, and the husband is thought to be drowned. Later the girl encounters her former love, and they marry. Their happiness is complete when a baby blesses their home. It is then that the first husband, who had been rescued but who, owing to an injury to the head, could not remember, arrives. The dramatic intensity of the scenes which follow is very marked, and many breathless moments pass 'before the happy ending.
