COMPLETE NELSON AlnT> MOTUEKA RETURNS.. .. .

CONTINUANCE SUPPORTERS

CONFIDENT.

The prevailing topic of conversation in the-city yesterday was the position of. the referendum on the liquor question. Supporters of Continuance are sanguine that the soldiers' and seamen's vote will give them a majority, when the final returns are counted The scrutiny of the Nelson roll commenced at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, ; and will probably be completed to-day. i Two hundred. and twenty-six absent j voters permits were issued by Mr J. Fitz-Gerald, Returning Officer for Nelson, and so far, he has received advice that 180 permits were exercised. The voting shows that Nelson electors were well scattered over the Dominion on polling day, included in the places where they recorded their votes being Wellington, Blenheim, Masterton, Christchurch, Wanganui, Auckland, Palmerston North. Cross Creek, Feilding, Waipukurau, Hokitika, Hamilton, Kumara, Christchurch, Hastings, New Lynn, Ashburton, Rotorua, Greymouth, Eltham, etc. About fifty seamen who took out seamen's rights in Nelson have voted.
