THE ORCHARD MOTOR HORSE.

Considerable interest was evinced at the trial of the new famous Avery Orchard and Small Farm Tractor held recently on the Arataki Government Experimental Farm. There was a <big attendance of orchardists, who showed keen interest and enthusiasm in the marvellous dexterity and utility with which the Avery was handled, the plough being worked as close to the trees as | could have been done with-a horse. The was accomplished, however, at a much greater speed. Mr Kirk, Direci tor, Horticultural Division, Department of Agriculture, made favourable comment upon the-advantages of the Avery Tractor compared with horse ploughing, and hoped those present would benefit by all they had seen. It is worthy of note that in Great Britain to-day there are over 6000 tractors^ in use,, many of them being operated by girls. To N.Z. orchardmen and farmers the ease with which the Avery is handled means much. Youths, and ladies alike can take their turn with the men, and full advantage taken, .of all the daylight hours to get through any amount of work in the season. Ploughing, discing, harrowing, drilling,, hauling, etc., are all done by the Avery, and stationary work also, such, as driving a circular saw, sheep shearing plant, etc., comes within its scope. All Avery parts are standardised, which ensures repairs being quickly and reasonably executed. Local agents are Messrs Buxton and Co., Ltd., General iuerehants, Nelson.
