ASSISTANCE TO SOLDIERS' CLUBS.;

The monthly', meeting" of J;h'e, LadyLiyerpool Committee was held' in the City . Council Chambers on Tuesday, afternoon, when there was a fair air ' tendance of members, Mrs Crawford : presiding. j It -Hjas resolved that Nelson's share of {the supplementary grant to Regimental Funds- in Egypt be forwarded. Mrs Crawfoid reported on. the. results of the conference held In Christchurch lon March sth x explaining that the ! Christchurch Fund had voted £3000 to 1 the Returned Soldiers' Club and £4000 .to ,be invested at compound interest as . j a nucleus for founding a veteran's " home later on. The remainder of thei money in hand tOv.be held' for the present.' It was resolved also at the conference ' that all branches control the expenditure of their own funds in hand, so long as it be expended, on -t;he soldiers. A hope was expressed by the Head Centre that all branches take part in the I peace celebrations. 'N Arter some discussion it was decided that the Nelson committee forward a resolution protesting against the action of the Minister of Internal Affairs in vetoing the grant of the Christchurch Commit fceo to the Returned" Soldiers' Association. It was resolved that subject to. tho approval of tlte Peace Celebration Entertainment Committee the Lady Liverpool Fund will give the returned soldiers a welcome home in the form of a dinner and social on the Tuesday of peace celebrations. A statement of accounts was presented showing a credit balance of over £2000.

K. great number of acknowledgements were received of the Xmas gifts, also a number of acknowledgements of a Y.M.O.A. tea given with the Nelson Liverpool money. j Mrs Lock again reminded the commit- ' tee of their promise to assist at the Na- | tional Reserve Band Bazaar the first week in June, the Liverpool Committee [having promised to take charge of cake I stall.
