At the Feilding Magistrate's Court a case in which considerable interest was evinced came up for decision. James Lang claimed.,-£4B from W. G. Kemp for sheep worried on his farm on New Year's Eve. There was a counter claim in which Kemp, a drover, claimed £85—£45 the value of four sheep dogs shot, and £40 for damages, due to the loss of the use of the doss. The Magistrate gave judgment for £28 5s (disallowing the claims for- the sheep that were bitten and the charge for burying the carcases), with* £10 expenses and costs. .In the counter claim, his Worship said Lang was not justified in shooting, the dogs four hours after, they were caught in the paddock with the sheep. As to the question of damage for the loss of the dogs, it was generally apparent that, fw act of worrying, the dogs had lost their status as sheep dogs. He therefore thought the- ease would be met by £15 damages, with £3 9scosts.
