EMPIRE THEATRE

-The popular novelist, R. W. Cham-! bers; is- the author ,of the Vitagraph' drama ."The Womrtn.'Setween-Friends ?! to be shown at ihe- Empire Theatre tins' afternoon, and evening. . The story tells! of a sculptor' and-an artist who- swore eternal friendship on ' the eve of the,1 sculptor's marriage.. But before very! long the artist ran away with"his friend's | wife, and in due course.tired of her with the result that she became an outcast, j and eventually was killed in an accident which her husband ' witnessed. The artist, in the meantime, meets a youn^ girl, whose part is played by Alice Joyce. IHe introduces her to the sculptor, who for the first time learns from a chance remark that it was the artist who had robbed him of, his wife. He then decides to be revenged and extracts a promise from the artist that he will conimit suicide on a certain In the end he relents and tries to save his false friend How in the end the sculptor loves and is loved by the young girl, and Eow he relents towards his false friend, makes an intensely stirring finish to a story which is full of action from first to last. There are some very beautiful scenes and. the peaceful ending after the stress of emotion- is very pleasing. There will be the usual excellent supports, including a further interesting instalment of "The Double Cross." The-Gilberts, who have had:such a successful run, will be making their final appearance to-night.

WAKEEIELD. The current programme, as shown at the Empire Theatre during the last three nights, entitled "Fields of Honour,", a Goklwyn drama, will be shown at Wakeeld to-night. The celebrated screen artist,^Mae Marsh, plays the leading part. We have no hesitation in classing tlrs picture amongst the best yet seen in this district.
