FISHERIES COMMISSION.

SUGGESTIONS BY MS, AYSON.

[United Press Association.]

Auckland, March 19. Giving evidence before the Fisheries Commission Mr L. F. Ay son, Inspector of Fisheries, made the following suggestions : (1) Scientific prespecting of coastal waters, section by section, as recommended in his report "of 1913, supplementary to his work in 1901 and 1907-8. (2) Scientific investigation of fish life on our fishing grounds. In this connection he considered a marine biological station, somewhere in the north, a necessity in order to acquire accurate knowledge of the life and habits of our market fish. The marine hatchery, and Ijiological station at Porbobello, Dunedin, is doing very useful work in this connection. (3) Full inquiry into the methods adopted in Australia with regard to packing and transportation of fish, and the methods of State marketing and distribution of fish in New South Wales and Queensland with a view to improving methods of transportation and distribution in the Dominion. Mr Ayson also recommended State assistance to returned soldiers and fishermen.
