NORTHERN TERRITORY.

PROBLEMS OF ADMINISTRATION

As an experiment for the alleviation of some of the administration ills afflicting the Northern Territory the Council of Advice scheme initiated in 1911 during the administration of Mr Mahon, but hot persevered -with, is to be resuscitated. The Council will consist of seven representatives, three of whom will be officials, ad four non-officials. The Administrator will preside aS all the meetings. The two non-official members of the Council will <be appointed from the purely Labour section of the community the other two on behalf of the pastoral, mining, and business interests. Details Will be embodied in Bbc form of an ordnance supplementary to that of 1911 under which it provides that the proposed Council should consist of six officials only. It has not been called together..since 1913. The new Council will be nominated on the representative lines indicated, and experience will show whether it. is desirable that non-official members should be elected or appointed The Council Avill from time/S to time examine matters connected with-the administration of the .Territory and advise the Minister of its opinions.
