Mr Oldfield, organising secretary of the Franklin branch of the Farmers' Union, will probably 'be a candidate in opposition to Mr Massey for the Franklin seat. The executive of the branch passed a resolution that it did not endorse Mr Oldfield's candidature. The constitution of the Farmers' Union precludes participation :n party politics.
