SUGGESTED SITE AT STOEE

(From "The Colonist," Oct. 3rd.) During his remarks at the monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital and Charitable- Aid Board yesterday the chairman (Mr. T. Neale)* mentioned that during the recent visit of the Minister of Public Health (the Han G. W. itnsell) to Nelson, the latter was taken for a drive through the Stoke district; and he was much impressed with the locality as being suitable for a site for the new hospital. Mr. Neale considered that if the Board could obtain a site in Stoke ifc. would be the finest thing it. had ever accomplished and would push Nelson ahead. Main' times'.the question", of trains had 'been discussed, but a.paying. proposition had nwer been put up. if the. new hospital was erected at Stoke, he believed, with the - Cawthron Institute there a tramway from Nelson .via* Tahuna'to 3toke would be a payable proposition. Tin* Minister was so favourably impressed with Stoke asa hospital site fcmit he had practically promised to contribute half the purchase money of 49 acres

The -chairman said he discussed the question of a maternity home with the Minister while he was here. The Minister was of opinion that the establishment of such ! a home in the city would be a forward. move, and lie would be willing to assist. The Town Committee by next meeting hoped to place a concrete proposal before the Board in regard to the maternity home, also in regard to dental treatment at the Hospital.

The chairman 'said there was now provision for 21 beds in. the scarlet fever ward at the, Hospital, and further accommodation had been provided for the nurse.
