THE NEXT STEPS.
October 2nd
At the monthly meeting of the Nelson Harbour Board yesterday the chairman (Mr H. R. Duncan) said that since the last meeting the poll of ratepayers on the wharves pui'chase proposal had been taken with very gratifying result. The result showed that the ratepayers had confidence in the board and in the future of the district. The oft-repeat-ed gibe that Nelson was asleep was not justified. The prosperity of the district would increase, and the board must justify the confidence shown in it by conducting the finances efficiently and economically.
The board's appreciation of the chairman's services in connection with the loan poll was recorded in a minute, and a vote of thanks was passed to the press for its support of the" proposal. The chairman said the board would now have to see when-the money would be available, and when the board could take the "wharves over.-. , . ,
pome-discussion it was resolved that the chairman and the secretary proceed to Wellington to complete ar-, rangements for the loan and for taking over tho wharves, and that a special meeting of the board be held as soon as the chairman and the secretary returned.
