RUNAWAY IN THE CITY.
(From "The Colonist," Sept. 28th.)
Startled by the sound of the rifle fire at the Boys' College yesterday afternoon, a horse attached to Mr A. llobinson's parcel delivery van bolted from Ngatitama street into Wainiea street, and turning into Hardy street successfully negotiated passing vehicles until it crossed the intersection of Trafalgar street, when it got close to the footpath, sweeping up bicycles which were leaning against the verandah posts, one machine being' damaged. It then collided with a gig belonging to Mr T. G. Mason, of Waimea street, which was standing oxitside of Messrs Wilkins and Field's. In the gig was seated Miss Askew, of Riwaka, a niece of Mrs Mason's, who was thrown out by tho force of the^ impact. Fortunately she escaped serious injury, but suffered severely from shock, she only having just come out of the Hospital after an operation. The runaway continued its I career without further mishap, and was eventually brought-to a standstill near the Education Office. The body of the pig was damaged and the shafts'broken. The horse in the ,gig attempted to bolt after the collision, but was stopped after it had gone a few yards.
