REFERENCE AT HOSPITAL BOARD.

(Prom "The Colonist," Oct. 3rd.) Bofore the ordinary business of the iNelson Hospital and Charitable Aid board was proceeded with at the monthly meeting yesterday, the chairman (Mr. T. Neale) said it was only natural that reference-should be made to the good news from the battle fronts that had come through during the past few days, and ho thought they should place their' gratification on' record. Mr. Neale said that on the previous evening he had attended the public gathering at the Church Steps, and had listened to an exceedingly o-ood address by the Rev. E. D. Patchett. There were, he said, certain passages m that address which should be made n)'>ro explicit, as in his opinion expressions by public men tended to mould public opinion. The rev. :geii~i tlem-an.-:had: .-/slated .■ that- men liko Lloyd George, President Wilson, and Uleuience'au, would not degrade the victors by degrading the vanquished, I they were not fighting their enemies with unhallowed weapons, and they would not allow nn unhallowed spirit of revenge and injustice to stain the conquerors' swords. Mr Neale said personally ho considered these expressions required a good deal of explanation. Tl'.py must, consider what was meant by tho word "degrading." When Serbia vvns fighting with her back to the wall! ■shp called to her ■ Allies, asking them I to keep her from being stabbed in the back. She was stabbed in the back, and thousands of innocent Serbians wwo lost. Would it be &takiing tho victors'"s^grds to bring retribution to those who caused all that? The persons who committed the crimes should, in his opinion, be brought to justice,' and made to pay for their crimes. Tlip chairman then moved that the Board places on record its appreciation of the gratifying war news from the battle fronts, and its congratulations to the Al'tes on the results achieved. Tho motion was seconded by Mr. Macmahon, and carried.
