A GERMAN TRAP.

Commenting on Germany's acceptance of President Wilson's terms, General Pau. said the feeling that peace was imminent was unjustified.
General Pau added that we. must not fall into a German trap. The only real solution was to get the Germans on the other side of the Rhine.
Senator Pearce described the offer as an acceptance by the enemy of the inevitable that could be regarded only with caution and as ah indication of the trend of events.
The morning papers accept it as an admission that the Germans are'militarily beaten, but urge the need of the strictest caution and the most binding guarantees before considering any peace preliminaries. They express grave.doubt aboxit accepting the word of any German statesman.
The "Herald" says no Allied country can trr,st the Germans to give back the annexed territories in France or make good the damage in Belgium and France if their army is allowed to return home without further molestation.
The "Telegraph" declares that Germany will have <*ily herself and her past actions to blame if President Wilson should reply that acceptance of his terms by the German Government,

even with the .endorsement of the Reichstag, cannot be deemed sufficient because the German Government has exhibited bad faith on previous occasions, and. therefore cannot be now trusted.
