WORKMEN'S WAGES.

"" Wellington, Oct. 11. I The work at the new Parliamentary Buildings has been proceeding t;nder difficulties lately. The workers, feeling the rising cost of living, have asked for moro wages. Carpenters found their requests were not receiving the desired consideration, and some left the job. An increase in pay was then granted. Plasterers made similar representations, and got a slight increase. The stonemasons not so successful. They asked for 2s an hour in place of Is lOd. This was refused, and on Tuesday sixltei*.n men left work, leaving one or two ,on the, job. • ! _ "it is stated that the trouble will not interfere with the preparation of the chamber for the Parliamentary session. ; The men arc restive owing to the uncertainty as to whether work will be suspended during,the -session. . The Minister,of Public Works, howjovor, say* that the work will go on ■u'itliout alternation.
