At the wireless call for help fifty vessels of all descriptions quitted Kingston. Crowds lined the pier awaiting tis&Bgs, and 200 ambulances awaited the Burvivorß. The first rescuing veS&ei brought 105 and others about 100 and also a number of dead.
An officer states that all would have been saved but for the second torpedo. Only four boats wore then afloat. Tbe oeotipa.nts saw a most terrible spectacle as th© ship heavily listed, her propellers out of water.
When oho was struck the second time the torpedo's track was seen, but no submarine. There was a tremeudkras explosion, and som© of the boats were smashed to matchwood.
