Wellington, September 18. Corporal Williani Arthur Odrinant, of the Military Police, was tried at Buckle ?treet "barracks on a charge that he made a false accusation against a superior officer, knowing the accusation to be false. -
It ay.is alleged that the accused told four members- of the forces-.pn the night ef August l*b last tha-c Captain Charles (Jr;iy, Assistant Provostr-ilarshal atWcllingf.oll, had- been <frunk while in ibs execution of lii.s duty.
The accused pleaded not guilty. Quartermaster Moore stated that on tho evening o f tho date mentioned hs was present in a room when the accused received orders by telephone from Captain Gray in reference to the despatch of a patrol boat. .'lmmediately afterwards tho accused said he "could nearly smell it over the wire." iVhen the: accused returned later with the launch lie .told nvitnesa that .'his impression that Captain Gray was "full" had been correct.
•A--number of witnesses stated that they had.been with Captain Gray on [ the night mentioned and noticed nothing to suggest that he had been drinking. It was stated that Captain Gray nad.. .sleered; the launch- in rough water in a seamanliko manner; " The jToceedings were adjourned-.
