DAFFODIL DAY.

The veathor conditions for the Daffo^ dil Day effort in aid of the Red Cross "Our Day appeal on Saturday were perfe<% land "thToughout the ;da^ ;-!Trafalgar ;gtreet was • thronged. ITiere'were-stalls for the .sale of lowers, buttonholes, pot plants, - sweets, cakes, vegetables, etc., and a strong contingent of country workers came in by the morning train laden with quantities of produce of various kinds. Business commenced early,,and by noon stocks were nearly depleted, and In,the afternoon, when the largest crowd was about, they, were practically sold out. Young ladies also sold daffodils in the streets, and-school chi Wren made a house-to-house sale ,of Buttonholes.

"Dressing the:soldier" proved a novel attraction, and realised over £30. The "soldier," painted on a cloth, was first outlined and then filled in with money. By the end of the afternoon the figure was covered with bank notes and silver and copper coins. In the afternoon music was provided by the 32th (Nelson) Regiment Band, and Messrs Vitetta Brothers' string orchestra. '

Many of the stalls were artistically decorated, and the flower stalls, with their wealth of golden blooms, were particularly attractive.

The gross takings realised over'£3oo, withjsoin*} further sums to come in.
