METZ UNDER LONG-RANGE BOM-

FURTHER ADVANCE OF THREE
MILES

The news to-day from the Ameriea-n front is highly satisfactory. Since yes-> terday they have advanced two- to three: miles on the whole front of 33- miles* and patrols penetrated a; further two miles. .
It appears the Crermans are retreating to a line protecting the railways before Metz. Metz is under long-range gunfire. | There were six enemy divisions oper--1 ating in the .St. Mihiel salient, their total strength being 60,000, with a re- \ flex strength of 36,000. ' . The booty includes masses of material, j over 100 guns of all calibres, and hun- j dreds of machine guns and trench mor- j tars. !
The bridges in the re-cohquered territory are undamaged. The line at noon ran from Nornoy to Remborcourt, Haumont, Doncourt, Auxtempliers, and Abaucourt, and thence to the old line. The Metz guns are in action.
