PEACH AND ALMOND FAIR
The Salvation Army Citadel was filled last night when the Peach and Almond Fair In aid of the annual self-denial appeal was inaugurated. The fair was declared open by the Deputy Mayor (Mr T. P'etfcit), in the' Mayor's absence from town. The distinctive decorations of the "well-stocked stalls gave a seasonable touch, of biightncss, and this, was reflected in the proceedings. The following is a, list of the stil.?< - DraDPry stall: Mrs'(Adiutdnl) Parker. ! Baby clothing stall: .Mrs Qrtiy. .Tumble stall:"" Mis Robinson. Lolly stall: Miss Bliueoo ami Mrs Graves. Flower stall. Miss Nellie Jones. Refreshment marquee: Misses Pattinson, Smith, and. Lucy Brunning. ' An interesting , programme was furnished by the boys' section of the Nelson Junior Choral Society, under the direction of Mr John Tait. The items were is follows: —Pa}'£ songs, "Merry June," "A Welcome to Morn," and "The Sf>a Shore"; plantation songs, ""My Old Kentucky Home" and "The Old' Folks at Hjome" ; unison song and chorus, ''A Fine Old English Gentleman"; song, ''Golden Slumbers," Master John Scott; flute solo, Gounod's I "Aye Maria,' Master Leslie Rothwell; and humorous sketch. "Washing Day,' Masters Oooke, Scott, and C. and L. Tait. After this entertainment, good business was done at the stalls, and the refreshment marquee was well patronised. ' • The fair will be continued to-night' and on Friday evening, and on both oc-' casions Brigadier-Gist wilt preside. Tonight tho 12th Regiment Band will play selections outside the building, and the Methodist, choir will provide a musical programme. To-morrow evening con-, r-ert numbers will be given by" other friends. " : (
