A most appealing figure in the play is "Tho Kid," a vole taken by little George Stone. The "kid" has been taught by an old hermit with whom ho lives to recite the terrible story of his mother's betrayal. The author was the leading politician of the town, a corrupt and xinscrupulous scoundrel. At a political meeting crammed with the scoundrel's followers the "kid" recites his pathetic historyl with profound effect, and utter ruin i'a brought ,upon the man who posed as a reputable citizen.
