' The ste.^y withdrawal of the enemy under pressure back, to the line of the Somme-Oise canal has been accompanied by heavy fighting. The French gained a footing on the cast side in the neighbourhood of Noyon, and used it yesterday as the jumping-off place in a
farther advance towards the Sonime. The fighting is particularly heavy in the neighbourhood of ■ Juvigny. and Terny-Sorny. where the Americans are operating, and a. considerable advanco has been made possible. As a result the enemy have commenced to withdraw from the line of the Vesle across the Aisne.
