( A French communique says:— ■ After breaking the stubborn resist-' anee by the enemy, our troops;-to-day j compelled .them to retreat north of the Oise and the Vesle f romrr between: the Canal dv Nord and the Oise. Our] advanced elements arc following on the heels of the enemy. Our rearguards advanced beyond Li-, bermont, reached the outskirts of Esmeryhallon, and occupied Hopital Wood. Further east we crossed the Ailette and reached Marizelle, northeast of Manicourt. The enemy left numerous guns and a vast quantity of material. The battle continues on the plateau
