MR. LITTLEJOHN APPOINTED

'At last night's meeting of the. City Council the appointment to the vacant position of City Engineer was finally determined. After, the previous meeting throe of the applicants, Messrs Roche, Bunyard, and Littlojohn, woro left in the'running, and during the interval ' Messrs Roche and Bunyard have visited Nelson and interviewed the Council.

The first ballot last night was taken between the three applicants, and resulted in Mr Roche receiving ten votes, and the others five votes each. - The Mayor gave his easting vote on the tie in favour of Mr Littlejjohn, who accordingly went-into the final ballot with Mr Roche, the result being that Mr -Littlejohn received six votes and Mr Roche four.

Cr. Hampsou thereupon moved that Mr Littlejohn Be appointed. The motion' was seconded by Cr. Rout and carried on the voices. Cr. Carlisle,'however, demanded a division on tho 'motion, which resulted as follows: Ayes (6): The Mayor and Councillors Stringer, Baigent, Rout, Hampson, and Marris; noes (4): Crs. Gibbons, Watson, Pctfcit, and Carlisle.
