FIRE IN WAIHI MINE.

Waihi, March 21. An outbreak of fire occurred last evening in No. 9 (plan) level of the IV-, aim mine. The timber was particularly dry,-and-the fire'spread rapidly along the level and ud two timbered rises in the . vicinity. " The fire was checked within a few hours of its outbreak. The men on shift fought the firo gallantly throughout the night. Tho nre is confined to a small area and is not regarded as serious. One' of thfr horses underground was suffocated owing to the dense smoke spreadingthroughout the workings. Work in the mine 23 temporarily suspended
