The monthly mooting oi: the Murchison County Council was held on the 23rd inst. Present: Councillors Badcock, Letter', Pago, Thomson and Newman. 'The chairman wrote apologising for absence, and Cr. Badcock was; voted to the dair. < Tenders were received for contract No. 100, 25 chains.-of metalling, Grassy road (overseer's estimate £125), Henr> Bagnst £162 10s, J. P. McAuliffe £150. The chairman moved, seconded by Cr. Page, that as the lower tender exceeds the amount available, the work be cut down-to 20 chains, and that it be offered to Mr. McAulifFe at £6 per chain, provided -tl- at he lodges the necessary de-posit.-—Carried. ■ "•■■■"• Cr. Thomson maved, seconded by Gr., Badcock, that the chairman's action in accepting tenders since last meeting be confirmed.—Carried. flatters, arising out of the overseer's report were dealt with as follows:— Be Robinson's , application for a bridge, leftover until Cr. Newman is present; deviation of Maruia Soy.th road, resolved (Cr. Thomson) that the overseer call tenders for the work, and put it in land as soon as possible, and that the Public Works -Department be asked to have it surveyed and legalised; re Maruia-Hot Springs.. Cr. Thomson moved that application be made for £100 to be spent, by this Council, seconded by the chairman, and carried; OT>onneirs road, Cr. Thomson moved that the overseer attend to tie widening of this road, seconded by iCr. Lester, and carried; re Robinson's application for bridge, the chairman moved, and Cr. Page (seconded, that the Public Works Department be asked to put a suspension bridge over the Nuggety creek to enable school children to cross, carried; re R. C. Gibbs's road, overseer to confer with Mr. Batte. The report was then adopted. James Bunting, jun., wrote re road.— The clerk to inform Mr. Bunting that any available money will' be spent on the West Bank road leading to the section. Private A. Hyde applied for exemption from rates on his section.—Held over until other applications are dealt witb. On petition re telephone to Macnamara's accommodation louse, Maruia. Cr. Thomson moved, seconded by Cr. Lester, that the petition be endorsed.—Carried. H V. Logan wrote submitting offer re Six Mile race.—Deferred till next meeting. The V.M.C.A. Special Appeal Committee wrote asking for a donation to their fund.—Resolved that £5 be granted. . _; The same committee wrote nsldngi? councillors would collect in their respective riding with1 the local sctool teachers.—-The clerk to advise committee that Crs. Badcock and Page will make personal canvass, and other councillors will assist in other ways. Fell and Atkinson, wrote re Medical Association.—Consideration deferred until next meeting:. The Public Works Department wrote re culvert .in Fairfax street.—The clerk stated that a reply had been sent. As to. tie corner of Waller and ChaJgrave streets, the clerk was instructed to write to the Public Works Department, and that if jißcossary Mr Watson confer with Mr: Bathe and go ahead with the work. Seconded by the chairman, and carried. Cr. Newman referred to Newman's road grant and Oxnam's bridge at Nuggety.—The clerk to write again. Cr. Newman also referred to Gilroy's road and James Thomas's road.—lt was resolved that the overseer spend what ] thirds, etc., are available on Thomas's1
