ANNIVERSARY DAY.

To-day being . the 76th anniversary of the foundation of the Nelson settlement, will bo observed as a public holiday.

The 12th Regiment Band are holding a picnic at Hanby Park. There will be a patriotic bowling tournament at Wakefield, under tho auspices of the Wakefield CJub.

The principal district attraction is the Golden Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual show at Takaka, to bo followed' to-morrow by the annual race meeting teld under the auspices of the Takaka Racing Club.

The combined schools of the Motueka district will hold a picnic and sports in Staples's paddocks, when there will be numerous attractions for voun<* and old. '

A plain and fancy dress ball under the auspices of the .National Reserve Band will be held in the Provincial Hall, to-night.

T "The Manxman" will be screened at Hay ward's Pictures.

A public dance, in aid of the lied Cross Fund, will be held in the Oddfeliows' Hall, Wakefield, to-night
