(Received Jan. 27, 5.5 p.m.) London, Jan. 26. Sir Douglas Hai'g reports:— We captured positions in patrol encounters south of Lens. The enemy raided a post east of Loos. There is hostile artillery-activity at Plesquieres, Bullecourt, Bailleul, and Poeleapelle. Sir Douglas Haig reports aviation activity on the northern front. Our airmen dropped over 300 bombs at Courtrai, LedegKem, and Douai railway stations, an aerodrome at Courtrai, and billets westward of Cambrai. Our night fliers bombed aerodromes and billets at Ghent, Courtrai, and Rqulers. All the machines returned. We also bombed Mannheim factories, hitting a factory and docks in the town, and also the barracks and railway station at Treves, steelworks at Thionville, and raihvay stations. at Saarbrucken and Cherbillig. Our pilots report large explosions at all the objectives. There was a large fire at Troves. One of our machines is missing. Aircraft bombed and hit the aerodrome at Versainaere. to-day.
