As.far back as September,, 1915, it was agreed between the miners of scheelite and the Government that theprice should be 55s per unit per ton. of 65 per cent, tungstic acid delivered., ex warehouse London or Liverpool, .and this agreement expired in August, 1916. Petitions and representations have been, made to Government, and the Government in turn have made representations to tho Imperial Government on the Question of price,, and it has beenu urged that an increase in price should. be_ made "because considers bly higher prices were being paid for scheelite in. other countries and that the price oiferer! to New Zealand oroducers was too low to enable them to carry on tho business. The negotiations have been very much protracted, and in November, 1917, the information was received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies through His Excellency the-Gevernor-General that the Imperial Government are now prepared to increase i the price of seheelite delivered ex ware— ! house, London or Liverpool, as from ■January 1, 19x8,. to 60s per unit for ore on basis of 65 per cent, tungstic [ acid, less one per cent, brokerage, and Ito compensate New Zealand producers ■ for increased freight, war risk, insurance, and charges estimated at 3s lOd per U'lit.
