The harbourmaster at" Mackay reports by wireless that disaster has overtaken the town, which was struck by the cyclone, a tidal wave, and flood. Fourteen bodies have been recovered.

A bridge across the Pioneer river was wrecked. Hundreds are homeless.

All the wharves and sugar stores collapsed, and two small steamers wero sunk.

The town is on rations, and .-cere '■*- only enough food for ten days. A -.elief vessel has been despatched.
