The great marine charities of this country'"have through loug yeans rendered continuous and much needed service to the seafaring members of the community. The institutions include seamen's hospitals, hostels, orphanages, training schools and j^hips, pen! sion and destitute funds, 'their benefits arc extended to the men or the Royal Navy and its auxiliaries, the Iloyal Marines, the merchant service, tli'.i minesweepers and fishermen, ;uj'i to all ''who go down to tin; ,se;: ir. ToMneot tile need for their fuller ami more sustained support King George's' Fund for tSailor.s has boon founded, The King has graciously consented to become a patron of the fund and His Iloyal Highr.css Piinco Albert has accbptocl the olticc of President and at his request I have undertaken the duties of chairman.

At the inaugural meeting at the Mansion House, the First Lord of the Admiralty stated: "The King, in commanding that this fund shall be called by his name, sends us one more message of his interest in his sailor population, and his earnest prayer and do.sire that the nation may liberally and splendidly respond to the appeal which is now being made.'5 To-day, wnen the safety of our shores and indeed th. eexistence of the .[Umpire depend so largely upon the endurance and self-sacrifice of British seamen, 1 confidently rely upon a sympathetic and generous support or the public to our appeal, in the belief that what has been achieved in fearless action, cca.soless watching, and patient waiting is not forgotten, and that the debt owed to the Navy and mercantile marine wil;i bo fully and heartily discharged. i Contributions may bo sent to me, addressed to King George's Fund ♦«!• Sailors' Trinity'""House, London, E.C-. 3.
