A meeting of the council of the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon and was fully attended. The president (Mr C. R. Fell) stated that he had called the meeting to consider the proposed alteration of electoral boundaries and elimination of the name of -Mbtueka electorate-

After disou&feion' it was unanimously rofolved as follows: —-

That the Nelson Chamber of Commerce—

(IV Protests against the* elimination of the name of the Motueka Electorate and urges <ts retention for the district; lying to the west of Nelson. (2) Is of opinion that the inclusion of..JPo^iill, Balgrovo, Upper TVlotueka, Motupiko, and Tapawera districts in the Wairau Electorate is entirely unsuitable and in direct conflict with the provisions of the Legislature Act reciuiring the Electoral Boundaries Commission -to give due. consideration to present boundaries/ community of interests?, facilities qf communication, and topographical features.

(3) Suggests the following alterations 'in the proposed new districts as complying with the above conditions. (a) The inclusion in Wairau of Wnikawa, French Pass,. Admiralty Bay, and D'Urville Island. : (b) The inclusion "in Nelson of P*oxhi!i and Belgrove. (c) The boundary between .Nelson X and Motuoka to be the waterL shod from. Spooner's Range to the sea at En by Bay. i (d) The inclusion in Motueka of tlie Mouteve and Tasman und the whole of the Motueka Valley and Murchison County. .'! (c) The inclusion in the West' Coast Electorates of Reef ton and all south and west of the Murchison, Takaka, and Collingwood Counties.

(4) That "the llcofton Chamber of Commerce, luangahua County Council, Murchispn County Council, the Farmers' Unions in the Waimeas, Upper Motueka Valley, and Murchison, the Waimea County Council, and the committees ,set up in Motueka. Takak:i, and Collingwuor! be communicated with, and asked to support the above proposals by resolutions and forward the .same to the Electoral Commission,- and also to appoint r-onunittees or persons to act with the Nelson' Committee in arranging if necessary for delegates to appear before the Commission to urge the above proposals or any modifications that may ibo agreed on by the districts concernled.''. .• ".■■■'.
