AIR PIRACY.

> (Prom "The Colonist," Oct. 11th.). They came in the sable shrouded night, Careering aloft like fiends of hell, From the land of brutal force and might; Each armed with explosive bomb and shell. And they flung their missiles down on all,— Full many a league from battle rear — ' Regardless on whom the blows miijht ! fall, . I If only they shed some iumau gore. They came many times,/ and still they come, Now bolder grown, in the light of day; . _, Wrecking the happy and peaceful home, Maiming and killing along their \.&y. Women and men of tottering ige—. Mothers with'infants in arms—you.ths —maids, And children poring o'er^slate-and Page, -•- . .-.:. -'"'" All victims fall-to .these hellish raids. No voice is raised in the Teuton's land Against these devilish deeds of fright, • To purge their name from the murderer's brand; ; But all exhibit unfeigned delignt. Then all must be held accessory, The passive partners in active guilt, ' To leave the avenger's conscience free i To push his penalty to the hilt.

Dear Britain, you've borne this scourgetoo long In order to show your bands are' clean; To bear it longer would be to ■wrong All who on you for protection lean. And these with clamorous tongues demand Some sterner!' measures you now adopt, • E'en with retaliatory' hand, That the outrage once for all be stopped!

Forbearance with such a fote is vain: Notfcing but force will insure respect: Then dose them their medicine back again Until it.produce its full effect! And hearken you not to those who pi-pach Of sinking down to their level foul. Down to that level you cannot reach, Nor would you-so far debase youri soul.

The merest justice, for each offence Committed against, prevailing, laws, Insists on adequate recompense, To giv.e all possible-culprits pause: And swift retributive action would On these base cowards inflict . theblow !. ;" ■.'.'•- Needful to hastily change their mood, And further attacks^ through ."fear, forego! ■ \ -" ■ ■ S.H.S.
