A German submarine torpedoed the Italian steamer -Karl, -and also sank several lifeboats. Fifty-survivors have gone to Italy.

There was a number of Greek officials on board the Kari. They were coming homo via Switzerland. There is no news-of their fate.

It. is believed the Germans knew they were on board through espionage, which is rife in Switzerland.
