NELSON LAND BOARD.

A meeting of tlie Nelson Land Board was held on Thursday, October llih. Present: Mr. F. A. Thompson (Commissioner), and Messrs. Baigent, Bell'and Patterson.

Resolved, that Mr. "Walker be given leave of absence owing to illness, and tl:at loLter of sympathy be sent to him.

Applications for "cash" : Section 3, block.ii, Pakawaii &au-vey district, 416 acres 0 roods 09 perches," Philip Moore, refused; block ix", Tiitaki survey district,. 30 acres, William J. Lester, recommended at 25s per acre; block x, Tadmor survey district,,, 4 acres, Nelson Farmers' Union Lime Co., Ltd., recommended, for approval of Minister of Lands under section 129, Land Act, 1908', capital value £75, survey plan to be produced, .subject to warden's consent.

Applications for renewable leases: Section 27, town of Murchison, 2 acres, Joshua Scholefield, granted as per sale plan No, 229; section 6, block ■in, Tutaki survey district, 906 acres, F. A. Oxnam, granted as per sale plan No. 147; sections 1 and 7, block viii, Burnett •survey district, 911 acres, C, E. Show cause: Section 3, block xiv, Takaka survey district, rent.—Lease forfeited, section to bo reopened with original capital value, loaded with £I<X) .valuation for improvements, 2 years' exemption recommended. Correspondence and miscellaneous: From A. J. Rogers, asking for exemption from rent and residence on section 18, block ix, Tutaki survey district.—Recommended for approval of Minister of Lands, 2 yeans' exemption from rent and exemption from residence whilst residing adjoining. From \Y. S. Flowers, asking to have capital value reconsidered on" account; of poor quality of land and largo amount of fencing required.—Capital value to remain as fixed by the Board.

From R. L. Kearns, offering to take over part of the area refused by T. Kearns.—Declined, no area available. From F. L. Newman, asking for more permanent tenure so that ho might improve same.—Declined.

I'rom L'nder-Secretary for Lands, re application for remission of rent by E. H. Burnett on section 2, block xvi, Maruia .survey district.—Received, matter to be again referred to Minister.

I'rom Ranger Harris, recommending that tie loading of £25 on section 22, block v, Ti^.aki survey district, be taken off, as the improvements originally made are now of no value to an incoming tenant.—Approved, section to be re-offered with no loading for improvements.

From the Under-Secretary of Lands, re destruction of agricultural lands oy dredging.—Received. Mr. Harley, of Adams and Harley, asked for pormission to address the Board re obtaining the Board's consent to exchange an area of laud between Messrs. Gill Bros, and the Crown in order to obtain a better road line, and that area between the. new road and education reserve 35 be purchased from Messrs. Gill Bros for £25. —Previous resolution adhered to, that, the Board regrets it. .has no funds available for paying the above compensation.

"'••Din the Undcr-Secretary of Lands, asking for a report as to the action u-e .'-.iKirci intends to take with regard to the settlement of Te Ilaetihi and Te Mapou blocks, vested in the Nelson Land Board under section 12 of the Native Land Amendment Act, 1914, and amendments.—Report to be obtained for the next meeting of the Board.

Regarding the disposal of section 49, block xv, ■ Takaka survey district, it was resolved to offer at public competition, at upset, annual rental of £6, at the Courthouse, Takaka. Permitted improvements to be assessed in favour of outgoing tenants. r _ Plans for approval: Section 13, block vii. standing was adjourned for one month, Jt was resolved on the motion of Mr. IJcll, seconded by Mr. Baiqont, that tho Minister bo recommended that section 47 of tho Land Act, I<JOB, bo amended t ; o increase travelling al-lowanc-9 to 9d per mile and allowance of £1 per day on account of tiis increased cost of living and travelling expenses.
