RIWAKA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
ANNUAL MEETING.
The little grey kirk which for fiftytwo years has occupied the almost im-l disputed position of sole and only! church for the Ilr.vaka district was (writes a correspondent) tho scene of a jvery pleasant function ou the evening of Friday, September 28th, when the annual meeting was held, and the congregation had the opportunity of meeting for tho first time tho ncv; Moderator, Rev. G. H. Gibb, 8.A., of Noiso-i. I who visited tho district and prcviidt.d I over I:he meeting. Tho reports of the secretary (Mr J. B. Scott), tho treasurer (Mr A. Dfurnniond), and the Sunday School secretary "(Mr 11. I)r-ui»mojiil)■ .wore vead. and adopteiJ. '.tilese all revealed a souiul and-pro.ei"ossivo suite of affairs. . • I'he.- Sucre ta i v'-s report - made spocdiil reference to■ *,jio {.; : ?rvke rciiderod by'^ number of ladies whose eliorts hud placed the finances-of the congregation upon a.sound- basis, and also to- tile fine e.iforfc culminating m a garden party at tho residence, of Miss Fry, of Umiikuri, which resulted in the complete renovation of the church, both inside and out. An excellent and stirring address was I delivered by the Moderator, which will! go a long way towards heartening and I ( encouraging both congregation and j oilice-bearers. It was impossible to feei ] I otherwise,-indeed, than that the genial j personality, humour, and straightforward candour of Mr Gibb had created a profound and happy impression. During the evening appreciative reference was made to the consistent ar.d j valuable services rendered by Mr i&iipn Bate, organist and also to the personalservices of Messrs A. and R, DrunVmond, J. B. and R. Scott, L. Duncan, and others in a working bee recently organised to improve the maa:;'c grounds.
Not the least pleasing feature of the evening was ihe •programme of musical and other items, the contributors to which were Mrs Street, the choir, Rev. G. H. Gibb, and Mor^rs It. Scott. Maxwell and Harvey. Tivo good work of the choir under the baton.-of Mr Maxwell was favourably commented upon by ail present.
Sxipper having been served, a most enjoyable function was brought tq a close by the singing of the Motional Anthem and the pronouncing of the Bonodiction.
