A special general meeting of the Nelson Society for the .^Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held m tk& Mayor's -room on the 4th inst. .

Bishop Mules begged to be allowed to lay aside the office of president of the society, and proposed that Bishop Sad- , lier. be appointed in his stead. Bishop Sadlier was elected to the position, and on taking the cliair thanked the meeting for the honour done him, and, on behalf of the society, tendered Bishop Mules its warm tlianks | for the interest lie had taken in its , work.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Bishop Mules;.president, Bishop Sactlier; vicepresidents, .Mesdarttes Slaginnity, Noel Adams, and Bett, Misses . Atkirison, Orascoigne, Hunter-Brown, and Mars- ™ 'm A«&deacon Kempthorne, Messrs W. T. Bond, H. Watson, H. B. Walker. W. W Snodgrass, C. E. Molesworth, T Newman, and. H. "Gay; hon solicitors, Messrs Maginnity Son, and HoulKerhon. auditor, Mr Ralph Catley; hon veterinary adviser. Mr G. W. Mitchell. It "was resplvßd that the secretary uotify members of the committee Ijy postcard, of meetings^ . ■ The treasurer, reporting on the financial position of the .society, stated that at^date it was £81 16s in credit.
