(From The Colonist," Juno 6th.) Tho monthly mooting of the Nelson 'enunl Hod Cross Committee was held t Hallonstcins' rooms yesterday afteroon, Mrs W. Lock presiding. Accounts were passed for payment mounting to £5 18s Bd. The statement of accounts in connexion with the Red Gross Fete held at he end of April was presented. This howed jtlie total receipts to be £904 5s 10d, the principal items of rovenufeing from the stalls, etc., £534; adnission at gates, etc., £49 13s 8d; doiations, £7 10s: sale of Mayoress's ''lag, £252 0s Cd; hard-up dance, .£ls Is 6d; concert, £14 G.s; and Apple )«y,£3l 5s Cd. , The net result is the xidition of £852 7s 8d to the general und. Tomlinwn) reported as-follows:—"Last month bho sum of £1000 was cabled to Engand. The country branches are keep■ng up their reputation, the Dovedale Patriotic Committee sending.in £2S 6s 2d from a special effort, and a similar nun from the same committee has been donated '.between the two Reel Cross Sewing Guilds at Thorpe and Dovedale. Tapawera has sent in a further cum iif £21 7s 3d, which makes £81 7s 3d for their Gala Day on Easter Monday, and Rcekville a sum of £10 10s iromVi social evening In town, ChaplainMajor. The balance-sheet of the Murchison branch of the R«d Cross Fund shows that during the year ended 31s>t May, 1917,. £736 8s 3£d was raised in the district, and £719 3s Gd was remitted to the- Nolson Centre. The collections in the various subdistriets were as follows:—Murchison township, £39 16s-, Howard, £30 9s; O\*en Junction, £36 18s sd; Glenhope, £27 4s lid; Six Mile. £26 0s 6d; Fern Flat, £14 8s; Braeburn, £12 2s; Buller road, £W 18s; Longford road, £11 15s 6d. A special appeal realised £386 0s Bd, a«d the proceeds from a gala day held on October 23rd last year totalled £77 6s lOd. Donations and other receipts amounted to £139 15s 3£d. The result is' extremely gratifying, and speaks volumes for the patriotism of tfce people of the Murchison district. | The annual report of the branch i chows that the amount collected was £95 8s 7£d in excess .of the amount raised-during.-the previous year. The sale of donations of goods brouofct in £41 3s 6d, of which sum £11 lfs was realised from the-disposal of a watch presented by Owen settlers through Mr'>,' R. Win and a picture presehted by Mrs: E. Homan. /Special thanks were tendered to the collectors; axid especially to Misses McConochie and Burt for _their work done in the the backblocks of Glenfcopo and Howard, and to Mr. Hugh Eraser-for his work in' connection with the special appeal and other help during the year, also to Messrs. T. Downio (Six Mile) and M. f u(9 we? J^ction). Some changes had taken place in the personnel of the committee owing to resig-nations,-and tfce committee placed on record their ajgreciation of the work done for the fund by Mr. and Mrs. Kennell, Mrs. Drummond, Mrs. Esler and Mrs. Spiers, and by the collectors. Utnore to whom .thanks were expressed were Messrs. G S. Hayes,,, Bathe, • F.Keating, Mrs. thomason, Mr. Hodcson, Miss Fairhall, Mrs. Fairhall. Mr M, Eocera, Mr. H. The reoort of the Sewing Guild showed that 106 garments, mostly pyjamos had-,been made, and thanks were tendered to. all those who Jiad asfi£ted either by work, lending machines, or gifts of articles.
